Maloriak is the boss responsible for creating many of the denizens of the Blackwing Descent raid instance and is located on the east side of the ring. He has three phases that he cycles through (each corresponding to a different colour depending on which 'vial' he throws into his cauldren -
Red,
Blue or
Green), at 20% the boss goes into phase two which is a burn phase pushing healers and dps alike. There are also a total of 18 adds that are released throughout the first phase and two released in the final phase.
General- The boss may sound initially complicated, however once you settle and get the basics of the fight (group, spread out) it becomes quite simple
- Maloriak uses his vials in random orders, however the third in the sequence will ALWAYS be green

When Maloriak uses the red vial, the raid must be grouped up in front of the boss, heavy AoE which must be healed through-
During the red Vial phase, if you get a debuff you must move quickly out of the raid and not stand in front of the boss-
When Maloriak uses the blue vial, the raid must spread out at least 8 yards from each other-
When someone is encased in ice, they must be released quickly by a dps *1
- The boss must reach 20% during or shortly after the second green vial phase
- The boss casts
Release Aberrations which spawns three adds that must be off tanked
- Whilst there are nine adds up (three casts of Release Aberrations) any subsequent casts must be interrupted to prevent the tank and healers being overwhelmed
- Dps ignore the adds until the green vial is used, at which point they should be positioned on top of the boss and AoE'd down
- During the
green vial phase Maloriak will cast
Remedy which must be dispelled / purged / spellstolen
- Throughout the encounter
Arcane Storm MUST be interrupted; the boss is susceptible to slow effects such as mage's slow and warlocks Curse of Tongues
Phase Two - 20%- The two Prime Subject adds that spawn must be picked up immediatly, after two seconds they will cast
Fixate causing them to be immune to taunt effects and agro - DPS ignore these
- Heavy AoE healing and DPS race phase
- The boss casts
Absolute Zero under a player summoning a frozen orb that must be avoided by the raid at all costs; much like the Blood Prince encounter in Icecrown Citadel's Flame Orbs
The raid should be stood in the
yellow during the
red vial whilst standing in the
blue during the
blue vial phase and the second / sub 20% phases.
Tanks
- Tank the boss where he starts, facing the raid
- Pick up the adds and tank on top of the boss when the green vial is used
- Pick up the two Prime Subjects ASAP at the start of phase two
- Interrupt Arcane Storm and/or Release Aberrations when there are nine adds up if you're assigned to thisHealers
- Group up during red vial and move out if you have the debuff
- Spread out 8 yards during blue vial and heal people if they get ice blocked *1
- Heavy AoE damage during red vial and phase two (sub 20%)
- Don't try to dispel during the last phase
- Move away from the icy orb as quickly as possible during last phaseDPS
- Group up during red vial and move out if you have the debuff
- Spread out 8 yards during blue vial and help people if they get ice blocked
- AoE adds during the green vial phase, and dispel his buff asap
- Move away from the icy orb as quickly as possible during last phase
- Interrupt Arcane Storm and/or Release Aberrations when there are nine adds up if you're assigned to this*1 not certain as to whether freeze targets are healable at the moment
